reverse Sides
In addition to drawing a response to the question "What is information?" on the front sides of the iSquare, research participants completed the phrase, "Information is..." on the reverse sides. Scanned PDF images of 24 reverse sides are shown below (from iSquares #1-24). Content analysis of text on the back sides of iSquares #138-293 (Simmonds, 2013) has revealed that "knowledge," "data," "information, and "world" are the most frequently used words (see the complete table at right). Respondents employed an average of 13 words to complete the phrase "Information is..." However, the mode, that is the most frequently appearing number in the data set, was one, with the majority of participants using only one word to describe information. Interestingly, the drawings of information on the front side of the iSquare were accompanied by text, in the form of captions, in almost half the iSquares, highlighting the complexity of illustrating information and the preference research subjects had for placing words alongside images.
